I'm (not) a celebrity.. get me out of here!

Firstly, yes, he did get that pork chop he was desparate for yesterday. It barely touched the sides... I'm now typing this from his new bedside back on Rose Ward's high dependency unit (HDU), known locally as "Monsoon". Harrison made it over about two hours ago and has been settled, and has had dinner for the day: cauliflower mornay, broccoli and chips. This is on top of a decent tomato and cheese pizza with oregano for lunch. It's not bad... he's ordered tomorrow's food and is now back engrossed in "Top Gear" on his iPod. More cases were arriving in the spare beds in his PICU bay. It really was time for him to move on. After a couple of good walks around the ward this morning, though rather tired on the second, he took a celebratory ride in his wheelchair from PICU to Rose Ward - it's slightly nerve wracking leaving the safety blanket of PICU, but Harrison's consultant cardiologist has made another excuse to pop in, say hello, and tell us he's glad to welcome Harrison back to the ward. Instead of spending hours on the BIPAP mask, Harrison has been using a rather natty negative pressure lung machine called a "Hyacke". They'll be all over the Kings Road soon:

 

This is essentially a modern version of an iron lung; it works via suction to force his chest to move, expanding his own lungs as part of the process. Harrison's receiving a very small amount of oxygen via nasal cannulae, and has been much more responsive today. Tomorrow's plan is to investigate apnoeas and arrythmias. He won't depart Monsoon for the normal ward bay for his age until his team are happy he's strong enough to breath room air or use the nasal cannulae continually. Harrison's received a good few cards, and a lovely star balloon with a cheeky monkey attached too (thank you to everyone concerned)!
