Sunday - German Grand Prix!

I managed to get up earlier today and arrived back with Harrison at 7:30am. He did wake a few times during the night (despite sedation) but was more easily reassured and settled again without us needing to be there. At present he is still much the same. Greeted me with another apnoea, but from eavesdropping in on the male nurse's handover to our Portuguese nurse, it sounds as though the NIPPY machine was turned up last night to take account of this. The monitor is showing an increase in respirations so that would fit. The nurse in charge of PICU has heard what a huge F1 fan Harrison is, so she is going to bring him a television round so that he can watch it. At the moment Harrison is still shattered so I'm not sure how much he'll be able to watch but it will probably boost his spirits just hearing that familiar droning of the racing cars in the background. Right now, Harrison is having another nebuliser in preparation for his second bout of physio of the day. He looks quite a sorry little sight, the way he's sat hunched over the edge of the bed in a semi-unconscious state, being thumped on his back. He doesn't complain though, so it must be helping him and it's definitely good to get him moving around a bit. He didn't get his pork chops(!) yesterday, or anything else to eat for that matter. Today we're going to see if we can get a menu from Rose ward and find something suitably sloppy for Harrison to eat. There has been some paediasure (milk type nutrition) sitting on the side for him for the past couple of days, but personally, I'd prefer him to have proper food. The word 'Paediasure' brings back tube feeding memories (and smells!) from years ago that I'd rather forget!!
