What a stressful start to the day.... Two nurses appeared in our room which was rather ominous (they usually work alone). Apart from the usual blood pressure, temperature, oxygen saturations and pulse checks, they were here to collect some evidence. They had drawn the short straw and needed to get another throat swab and nasal pharyngeal aspirate (NPA) to check whether Harrison is now clear of swine flu.
Although Harrison was watching Dick and Dom, he was still very aware of the preparations going on around him. I tried to get him to focus on the television but his reply was, "No! That's distraction and it won't work." He's far too wise. Even with three adults restraining him, it was still incredibly difficult to obtain the samples from such a slippery victim. Job done, and everyone's heart rates rapidly returned to normal. Relief all round. Fingers crossed that they managed to get enough of a sample for the whole experience not to be repeated again.
Not good news for weight - lost a few hundred grams again....
BUT fab news - we're coming home TODAY!!!! Completely unexpectedly the doctor has just come to see us to say that we can go home. The sleep study carried out on Friday night was 'acceptable' which means that Harrison can go home on those pressures, and then come back for another sleep study and the lung function tests in 4 - 6 weeks time. This news has taken everyone by surprise - Harrison's nurses don't even know yet, and there's now lots of work to do to get us out of here. We hope to have the results of the NPA before we leave which will be handy to know for visitors. Realistically, we won't be going until the end of the day as we need to wait for paperwork, medications, Bernard with the car.... but we can goooooooo.........
Update at 6:20pm - Harrison is negative for swine flu - hurrah! Got all the medications and letters just waiting for Bernard to crawl round the M25 & up the A3. Not long now....
Thought you might like to see where Harrison has spent the past week:

It's been quite traumatic, at times, reading your comments as you all fought towards this day. But thank you for sharing your story. I shall log on again to see if you add anymore. In the meantime - Good Luck to you all. Perhaps one day we shall meet.
